Obituary for Willie A Manning

Willie Alfred Manning, the second son of five born to James and Allean Manning, was born on May 28, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York.

His parents, wife Verdelle Manning and two brothers (Bobby and Stanley) preceded him in death. Billy (as he was affectionately known) was educated in the New York City public school system and upon graduating from East New York High School in 1960, he was employed by IRS (Internal Revenue Service).

Billy later became employed by the New York City Transit Authority as a bus driver for over 20 years. During his employment, he was elected as a union representative. Billy later served as the Depot Chair for his union. He was responsible for representing over 500 employees with labor and management issues at the East New York Brooklyn MTA depot.

He remained Depot Chair until his retirement. Billy became involved with Alcoholic Anonymous where he advised and sponsored many individuals over the course of 25 years. Billy was heavily involved in the Civil Rights movement and attended the March on Washington in 1963.

With his keen sense of humor and dry wit, Billy was always surrounded by many friends and family. Billy went home to be with the Lord in the early morning of Sunday, January 20, 2019.

He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted brother Ronnie and his wife Claire, another brother Kenneth (Diana); sister in law Rosalyn Manning, paternal Aunts, Bernice Budden, Suzie Mae Ramsey, and Ethel Vaughn of South Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
